December 14, 2018 – Class Update

Happy Holidays!  It has been such a joy to share stone soup with everyone.  I love this tradition. The kids take such pride in their work and see how their small contribution becomes something that can be shared with so many.  We read stone soup stories from different cultures and discussed how a small kindness can grow.

The Bear class had a guest student, a refugee, share in our school for a couple of weeks.  I am so proud of our community for saying yes to this experience, for your children’s kindness to someone new and for their concern today when asking where she has gone.  It has led to beautiful conversations in class that I hope you can continue at home.

As we close the year I want to say how thankful I am to be part of this community.  I have the joy of working with your children, they bring a smile to my face everyday.  Through the chaos that is preschool I get to see the moments of wonder, kindness, and friendship that emerge between children and families.  Thank you for making this community the wonderful place that it is.

Wishing you all a peaceful winter holiday.

Kindly,

Teacher Allisen

October 19, 2018 – Class Update

Another busy week at preschool.  We have done leaf rubbings, leaf stamping, and used leaves as paint brushes.  We will continue with more leaf art next week. During circle time we have been discussing the difference between evergreen and deciduous trees (and spending a good amount of time saying the word deciduous).  Loose part creations have been tree inspired as well.

Teacher Barbara has returned to lead the Bears in music at the end of the day on Fridays.  She will be working with the Bears through the winter and hopefully with the Crickets in the spring.  Barbara is a retired music teacher who generously volunteers her time in our classroom every week. We’re so lucky to have her visit our class!

September 7, 2018 – Class Update

We are off to a great start this school year!  Thank you all so much for trusting me with your little people.  This week we have been focusing on family, friendship and community.  We will continue with this theme in the coming weeks as we get to know one another.

Both classes have been learning a song that will be the framework of our class agreements.   Bears have been working on learning the whole song this week. Crickets have learned part of it and will slowly be learning the rest.  We are taking time to talk about the words respectful, responsible, resourceful, and receptive. Big words for preschoolers, but we will be walking through them slowly.  The words to the song are as follows:

🎜 4 Rs of Community 🎜

Re, Re, Re, Re – The 4 R’s of Community.

Re, Re, Re, Re – The 4 R’s of Community.

Respectful to me and you.

Responsible for what we do.

Resourceful to get it done.

Receptive to have some fun!

I encourage you to have conversations about these words at home as it will enrich the conversations we have in class.
